Description of the activities, objectives and expected results
Through the research project currently underway, the company proposes to widen its range of services through the development of a new line of 3D printing services based on an integrated process of analysis, digital reproduction and the fast production of components and industrial spare parts with tested mechanical and functional performances.
A new integrated tool that combines printability verification with simulated performance verification and testing of printability with the checking and simulated test of performance; it will be possible to devise and validate a service model that combines the stages of analysis, digital reproduction, virtual performance testing and rapid production. This model will introduce a business-level innovation to the market, opening a new operating segment that moves away from the service offered both by the producers of 3D printers and printing software, and also by printing service providers.
The demand identified for this new service is wide. Based on the type of clients, the growth prospects for the new service can be divided into direct industrial users and suppliers of 3D printing services.
The project idea stemmed from a demand noticed by the company amongst its clients for this type of service, and from the wish to best integrate and use the company's technologies and skills. The objectives for the target companies identified above are:
- (in the medium term) to guarantee the supply to the service network of spare parts produced “on demand” without the need to keep warehouses, which could instead be replaced by archives of digital models which could be accessed based on need;
- (in the long term) to adopt rapid production processes to replace the traditional ones
